3 Ways to Become Happier

The other day I had the privilege of watching a video by Ray Higdon, with his friend Brady Young, on the subject of becoming a happier person. Their ideas really resonated with me, and I wanted to share a few of them with you.

1. Don’t sweat the small stuff. This is not a new idea, obviously, as the original book of that name came out in 1997. But many people still need to be reminded not to fly up into the rafters over things that really aren’t going to matter in the long run, or even tomorrow. If somebody cuts you off in traffic, don’t let it ruin your day. Just be glad you aren’t them – they are clearly having a really bad day, and you are not!

2. Spend time with people who matter to you. You might be building a business or be otherwise very busy, but be sure to schedule in time to pay attention to people you love – whether they are family or friends. Human relationships can be the first casualties of busy-ness, whether it’s caused by business or something else. Don’t let that happen, or your happiness will suffer.

3. Stop arguing with people on social media. Really. They were totally serious about this, and so am I. Everywhere in the Western world, these are very contentious times and it is very easy to go down the rabbit hole of toxic argumentation that never changes anybody’s mind. I am choosing to spend less and less time on Twitter for this reason. You may find yourself spending too much time arguing with people on Facebook. Go for a walk and admire a sunset instead. It will be so much better for your soul.

They had more points, which I will be happy to share with you – just drop me a line and I’ll send you all of my notes! It was a great video.
