Cape or Anchor?

The other day I had the privilege of watching the latest episode of Ray and Jessica Higdon’s Play to Win reality show. This is the second season, and they’ve got quite a remarkable crew of people taking part.

While last season was mostly about leadership, this one was about goal-setting, vulnerability and coachability. Just about every person there was dealing with some major trauma in their past, and part of the work they did with Ray and Jess was to learn how to turn that pain from an anchor dragging them down into a superhero cape. Among other things, they wrote letters to the people who had hurt them, telling them how they felt, and then they burned the letters and let those people go. It was amazing to watch. They spent the rest of the episode working on their goals and plans to make the world a better place.

It really struck me, how these people were able to work through their trauma and turn it into fuel, into wings for their desire to help others. It really gave me hope that this is something most of us can do – some maybe needing more help than others, but it is a path that every person can tread, if they so choose.

I recommend you watch the reality show – you can find it at https://www.facebook.com/rayhigdonpage. Look under videos.

I’d love to hear what you think of it!
