How to Stop Complaining

I heard a great tip from one of my coaches the other day, and I wanted to pass it on to you. It seems really silly, but it works surprisingly well.

Here’s the deal. We often fall into a habit of complaining about people and things, and we don’t even hear ourselves at some point. It’s just a habit. We know that it would be better for us to stay more positive and focus on the things that we want, rather than the things we don’t want, but habits of mind can be hard to break.

Here’s a way to give yourself a little shock every time you fall into the complaining habit. Just add the words “and that’s what I want” to every complaint. This person is annoying me … and that’s what I want. I suck at closing … and that’s what I want. It’s raining again … and that’s what I want.

Really? That’s what I want? No, it isn’t! So what do I want? Let’s think about that instead … and next thing you know, you are thinking about what you want instead of what you don’t want. Life is so much better that way, whether you believe in the Law of Attraction or not. It’s just more pleasant to think of things that we want.

I’d love to know how this works for you. Let me know!
