Everyone needs a coach, even (or especially) people who are coaches themselves. It’s so easy to see what others need to change in their lives to have success, but seeing it in ourselves is much harder.
So I have a coach – more than one, in fact. I am fortunate to be part of the Higdon Group’s 100K Inner Circle, where a number of coaches help us grow and improve our skills and our mindsets.
Coach Elsa is an Aussie who tells it like it is – and last night her words were so impactful to me, I thought I would share them with you.
I asked her with some help with an issue I was having, and I used the word “struggle”. It will come as no surprise to you that I am human like everyone else, and sometimes I feel like I’m struggling. It is OK to acknowledge that feeling, but then it is time to move on from that word. As Elsa pointed out to me, our words create our perception of reality. As long as I tell the story that I’m struggling, I will continue to struggle.
Of course, it’s not the case that merely changing my words is going to fix the issue that I’m having – that requires action. But by staying in the same frame of mind, I’m going to create the same situation over and over. If my story is that I am someone who struggles, I will make sure to live up to my own words.
So how do I stop struggling? By being coachable, and by working with people, like Elsa, who have been successful in whatever it is I am trying to achieve. I can stop telling victim stories and follow her guidance. There is no need to struggle, when I have living evidence that what I want to achieve is indeed possible. She is no more magical than I am.
Are you telling yourself disempowering stories too? How can you move on from the language of struggle? Once you do, you will see that what you desire is indeed possible – if you follow those who are willing to show you the way.
P.S. If you are local to me, come visit me for my next event on November 18, 7 – 8:30 pm, at GetAssist Networking Centre, 236 Osborne Street South #3, Winnipeg. We will be tasting products, telling success stories and answering questions. It will be fun!
