It’s been a long 13 months, hasn’t it? Even for those of us who have been fortunate enough to hole up safely at home and aren’t in dire financial straits, the ongoing background anxiety can be debilitating. It’s important to pay attention to signs your mental health might need a little support. Here are three signs – there are more, of course, but this should get you started.
- You don’t want to get out of bed, when you’ve had plenty of sleep. If your first thought upon opening your eyes is that you want to close them again, you might need to pay attention to that.
- You are cynical and negative, when that is not your normal mode of operation. Some people enjoy being cynical and sarcastic, but if you find yourself doing this when you are normally cheerful and positive, you might want to ask yourself why.
- You are grumpy and nasty to your loved ones, for no apparent reason. Definitely check yourself on that one.
Burnout is a real issue, and if you think you might be on the verge of it, or worse, reach out to someone who can help – a therapist, a life coach, or even a good friend who will listen to your feelings. Just getting it off your chest can be a huge relief, and if you need more help than that, there are many resources out there. Don’t let it fester – we are not out of the woods yet, and we need to make sure we are taking care of ourselves, as well as those around us.
Let me know what you are doing to take care of yourself!
