Are you trying to do everything by yourself?
Are you trying to build your dreams, raise kids, shop, cook and clean, and expecting yourself to be superhuman? Is “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” your rallying cry?
How is that working out for you?
For most of us, that is a sure road to burnout, no matter how grandiose or modest that dream is that we are trying to build.
There is no lack of distractions and excuses in the world, and if you don’t give yourself the space to grow, you will find yourself reducing the priority of that thing you said you wanted to do.
The way to avoid burying your project in a pile of mundane tasks is to have a team. This does not have to be a large group of people, it does not have to be your spouse, it does not have to be someone you employ.
It’s just someone who reminds you of the importance of what you said was important. If they can take some of the everyday tasks off your hands that’s wonderful, but even if they can’t, just having them there to support you when you are low can make all the difference between giving up and carrying on.
Do you have someone you can confide your dreams to, someone who will hold up the mirror and remind you of whom you said you wanted to be?
If you do, that person is your secret weapon. Cherish them, even when you hate what they are saying.
If you don’t, consider that every superhero needs a sidekick. If you want to make it through to the other side, you need help. There is absolutely no shame in that. If you have nobody in your life who will be your unconditional cheerleader, find one. It could even be me.
Who is on your team?
P.S. My friend Laurie and I are starting a new FREE program in June, called 30 Days to a Healthier You. We will be helping people figure out their best lifestyle – hydration, nutrition, exercise, and of course mindset! Just drop me a message if you would like to learn more.
