Why You Need to be Accountable to Have Success

We are three weeks into January, how are your resolutions doing?

I hope the answer to that question was not too painful for you, but statistics are against us – research shows that 92% of people abandon their resolutions before the end of January.

Why is that?

There are various reasons, but an important one is a lack of accountability. If we make ourselves keep track of our activity, so we can’t lie to ourselves about it, we are more likely to stick to what we said we would do.

If we make ourselves accountable to another person, we are even more likely to keep our word. It is so much easier to break our word to ourselves than to others. We will let ourselves down all day long, but we don’t want to let them down.

In my own life, I employ several kinds of accountability.

In the gym, I take a selfie after each workout and post it on Instagram – not just to brag, although I sometimes do, but as an inspiration to myself and others. We can build muscle in our fifties and beyond. If I can do it, you can too!

For my nutrition, I use an app called MyFitnessPal to track the various parameters that are of importance for my healthy keto lifestyle – carbs, fats, protein and fibre. I occasionally measure my blood ketone levels, and I am in two different accountability and coaching lifestyle groups. Check outΒ this videoΒ if you are curious about that.

For my business, I have committed to a couple of accountability trackers. A major one is inΒ Ray Higdon’s group, and another is with a local group of like-minded business owners.

I would love to know what kind of accountability you use in your life to keep yourself on track with your goals. If I can help you with any of those aspects, be sure to connect with me!
