OK, so Pesach didn’t exist in Paleolithic times. Our ancestors were shepherds, with agriculture thrown in once they settled down. But the fact remains, they didn’t eat processed food. They baked their own matzah and they didn’t attempt to game the system by making fake substitutes for their everyday food.
I was hanging out on Twitter today between scrubbing things, and I came across a great tweet by a lovely young lady named Meredith.
When my food shop for #passover week is no different from my usual weekly food shop… #paleo #realfood #jerf
This really gave me pause. Yes, I spent a lot of money on Passover food this year. But what did I spend it on? Mostly dairy, because my family eats a lot of that. I bought lots and lots of beautiful fish to make for our Seders. I bought some matzah, but most importantly, I didn’t buy a lot of processed junk. I will admit that I bought some, because some traditions need to be upheld. But generally speaking, I bought a lot less of that stuff than I have in previous years. I bought the same fruit and vegetables I normally do, minus a few legumes. I bought lots and lots of lovely local eggs. I bought nuts. I didn’t buy Pesachdik pasta or cereal or any of that other stuff.
Yes, I think when we stick to real food, the whole Pesach shopping experience becomes a lot less painful and expensive.
Now to my big announcement: I’m on Jimmy Moore’s Low-Carb Conversations! Jimmy himself was not there, alas, but Dietitian Cassie and Kevin Kennedy-Spaien did a lovely job of co-hosting, and I met the amazing Kaila Prins, too.
Have fun listening to our conversation! We talked about disordered eating, anxiety, fun stuff like that. But we had quite a few laughs, too.
Wishing you and yours a kosher and happy Pesach if you celebrate. I’ve still got one more post in the #blogExodus series, and then I’m going offline for a couple of days. After that it’s back to my normal schedule – I haven’t forgotten about WordPress, Paleo or even my basement!
Hi! So glad that my little tweet inspired this post! Thank you sharing. I appreciated our conversation, and that someone else felt the same way. Real food takes the fuss out of everything, Pesach or not π
Now I’m off to listening to the podcast with you and Kaila. It sounds like an interesting one. Enjoy the final days of Passover!

Hey Hadass,
That’s awesome that you were on Jimmy’s show. That’s how I got started in fact. Was on his show first which led to other opportunities.
Let me plant a seed. Consider leveraging that podcast to see if you can get on other people’s podcasts to help get your name out there.
Have a great day.
Deano
Thanks, Dean! Still thinking about how to do that, but I appreciate the planted seed!
