True confession: I am an older Jewish woman, and my heredity is to develop Hadassah arms. Also known as bingo arms, for my non-Jewish readers. But I am determined to beat my genes, and tone those babies up. Hence the gun control project.
This series of blog posts is intended to chronicle my journey. Right now I am dealing with an interesting, somewhat frustrating conundrum – I have been working out with kettlebells for about three years now, and have added Olympic lifting in the last few months. I can do a pretty good push-up.
So you would imagine I would have pretty good arm muscles by now. What is interesting and frustrating is that the top or bicep part of my arms is getting quite hard and strong, as you would expect, but the bottom or tricep is still pretty flappy. There’s still work to be done.
Starting Monday, October 12 (Thanksgiving here in Canada!), I will start measuring and photographing my actual arms, and not just my shadow, to see if I am making progress. I’ll tell you what I am doing, and see where it goes.
Yes, I know this looks like a real vanity project … but it seems like an amusing measure of my health, in the sense that I will have to drop a fair amount of body fat to have any impact on my triceps. Spot reduction is a myth, I’m told.
If you are interested in joining me in this journey, let me know! I’d love to have company on my way.
well, well! It certainly goes back to Latin – armamentarium, armiger, but even then the conflation was used. Interesting.
People have a very complex relationship with both kinds of arms ;-).
