OK, so my laptop isn’t quite as old as this. But sometimes, it sure feels like it.
Today was the most frustrating day I’ve had since I committed to this online gig. Firefox decided to update, and my poor 2006 Lenovo has been choking ever since. It’s been pretty bad for the past few weeks, but today everything just took forever, and I had to reboot it at least once just to get through the stuff I do for money, let alone this blog.
So that’s why everything has been in abeyance, and it makes me sad. This really is not a good time for me to be buying a new laptop, but if I continue to find myself down to blogging once a week (and I haven’t even dared start the WAMP server!) just because it is so hard and time-consuming to do anything, I’m going to have to bite the bullet and go buy a new laptop.
It has to be Windoze, because I have too much of a commitment in software and data to change operating systems in a non-compatible way. I’m working on Windows XP now, just to give you an idea of how sad things are in my house, technologically speaking. At least, for me. My two older kids are both running Windows 7 on their machines.
I do have an iPhone so I am not completely Apple-illiterate. I’m wondering if I should go for an iPad with keyboard instead. It would be way more expensive than an Asus, and I don’t know how much value I’d get out of it. My apps would run, but I don’t know if it would do the things that the laptop can do. If it’s just a big iPhone, it’s not good enough.
Recommendations most welcome!!
Hadass, I have been Windoze at home forever, so I have the same data and app dependencies. However, I recently bought a Mac Mini since there is a system called Bootcamp which comes with OSX and allows for a WIndows partition on the system. I believe it allows for dual boot into either Mac or Windows. I have not actually installed my system yet, so I cannot guarantee anything said here, but you can surf the web for more details.
Thanks, Ric!
Well, you’re at least giving me more time to catch up. π
I use XP myself, both at home and at the office. It does what I need to do, and I don’t have to learn a whole new interface. Hated Vista, and 7 just still reminds me of Vista.
An iPad still won’t let you run your Windows apps, but I understand the appeal. My wife got hers just yesterday, and it’s pretty nice. She is looking at keyboard/cases, and I suspect she will go with the Clamshell over the ZAGG, since it is apparently more adjustable.
Thanks, Eric!
