Learning about Essential Oils!

Essence Collection Since the company I partner with came out with Essential Oils in August, I’ve been learning as much as I can about them, and of course I’ve enjoyed using them. Now I’d love to share some of that knowledge with you.

So what are essential oils?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in their Vocabulary of Natural Materials (ISO/D1S9235.2) defines an essential oil as a product made by distillation with either water or steam or by mechanical processing of citrus rinds or by dry distillation of natural materials. Following the distillation, the essential oil is physically separated from the water phase. (Source: National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy).

The pictures below give you some idea of what is involved. Click on the thumbnail to see a full-sized version.

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years, but have only recently been studied in a more serious fashion, to see which of their health claims can be substantiated. Check out this Healthline article for some of the research.

So what kind of oils do we have, and what are they good for? Stay tuned! More blog posts coming up soon.

Hint: think digestive health, sleep support, immune health, physical well being and weight wellness. Kind of like our nutritional products.

If you don’t want to wait, hit the scheduler on the side of this blog post and let’s talk! I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.
